Bone meal is a slow-release organic fertiliser made from crushed animal bones. It's mainly used as a source of phosphorus, which plants need for roots, flowers and fruit. FAMCO Bone Meal was tested by ICAR-IISR, Kozhikode at 3.62% nitrogen and 20.56% phosphorus (P2O5).
How much to use
| Plant | Amount |
|---|---|
| Flowering plants (rose, hibiscus, jasmine) | 1–2 tablespoons per plant |
| Fruit and vegetable plants (tomato, chilli, brinjal) | 1 tablespoon per plant |
| Indoor plants | 1 tablespoon per plant |
| Lawns | A light, even layer |
How to apply it
- Loosen the topsoil around the root zone.
- Sprinkle the bone meal and mix it into the top layer of soil.
- Water thoroughly.
Because bone meal releases nutrients slowly, it works best mixed into soil rather than left on the surface. It pairs well with vermicompost, which adds organic matter.
