Why phosphorus and organic matter matter
Turmeric is a rhizome crop grown on raised beds that benefits from organic-rich soil. Organic matter improves soil structure and drainage, and phosphorus supports root and rhizome development.
Published recommendations for turmeric
| Input | Published recommendation | Timing | Source |
|---|---|---|---|

| Vermicompost (integrated organic) | Oil cakes (2 t ha-1), wood ash (1 t ha-1) and vermicompost (4 t ha-1), with biofertilisers, as standardised by ICAR-IISR | With the organic manure application | ICAR-IISR & AICRP on Spices, Good Agricultural Practices for Turmeric (2026) |

Note: No dose is given for bone meal. ICAR-IISR lists bone meal with SSP and rock phosphate as an option for phosphorus deficiency, "based on soil test recommendations".
These are general published recommendations for the crop, quoted as the source gives them. They are not FAMCO product doses. Follow a soil test and your local agriculture or horticulture office.
